KATRIEN VERMEIRE
Katrien Vermeire (1979, Belgium) studied photography at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent and Art History (BA) at Ghent University. The winner of the 4th annual Fine Arts Award of the Province of West-Flanders (BE) in 2002, she has been working as an independent artist since, developing a distinctive style that is not only highly poetic but also very varied and layered. Her work has been exhibited in numerous galleries both in Belgium and abroad, including a duo exhibition with Hans Op de Beeck and (solo) exhibitions at the new Museum M in Leuven, Kahmann Gallery in Amsterdam and Crown Gallery in Brussels. In 2011 GODSPEED was selected by FOAM Amsterdam for Foam Magazine #28 Talent 2011. Katrien worked on the series Godspeed in Tennessee in spring 2010. Using photography's fundamental ingredients of light and time, she allows the medium to make visible what would otherwise be invisible and catches the beauty of a special natural phenomenon. Godspeed is shown in Foam Magazine #28 'Talent'. In 2011 Godspeed was selected by FOAM Amsterdam for Foam Magazine #28 Talent 2011. THE WAVE a photo and film project co-directed with Sarah Vanagt (BE, visual artist) premiered at the 18th Biennale of Sydney 2012. Katrien Vermeire is currently working on the postproduction of the documentary short DER KREISLAUF and a new photo and film project in the US. She is represented by Crown Gallery, Brussels and Kahmann Gallery, Amsterdam.
