NORA MARTIROSYAN

Nora Martirosyan is an artist and filmmaker, whose work deals in particular with the question of transmission. Being originally from a country that stopped existing in 1992, she questions the weight and the necessity of the transmission of those personal and civil experiences on which her generation was raised. Often silent or almost silent images are built on impressions and sensations. Her films are characterized by generosity of colours, luminosity, precision in the choice of characters, gestures, patterns, which is the basis of the body of her artwork. Nora Martirosyan studied at the Amsterdam Gerriet Rietveld Academie. Afterwards, she simultaneously completed two post graduate residences - Le Fresnoy in Northern France and the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam. Her films and video works won several international awards: Grand Prix du Jury at the "Entre Vues" International Film Festival in Belfort; Barbara Aronofsky Latham Memorial Award at Cinematexas, USA; Uriot prize of the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam both in 2002 and 2003. In 2007 her film "1937" was awarded the Sound Prize at FID, Marseille.
