KRASSIMIR TERZIEV

Krassimir Terziev is an artist and researcher living and working in Sofia, Bulgaria (born 1969). He reseived a Ph.D. in Cultural Anthropology at Sofia University (2012), and is lecturer in the Digital Arts MA Programme at the National Academy of Arts in Sofia, where he received an MA in Painting (1997).

His work has been exhibited widely, including: “Actors&Extras”, Argos Centre for Art and Media, Brussels, “The Projection Project”, MuHKA, Antwerp, Mucsarnok/Kunsthalle,Budapest; “Cinema like never before”, Generali Foundation, Vienna, Akademie der Künste, Berlin; “New Video, New Europe”, TATE Modern London, Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam, St. Louis MoCA, Renaissance Society, Chicago, The Kitchen, NY; “The Last East-European Show”, Museum of Contemporary Arts Belgrade; 9th. Cairo International Biennale; and more.

His films and videos have been programmed at festivals: Visions Du Reel, Nyon Documentary Film Festival; Festival Cinéma Méditerranéen, Montpellier; Scanners: New York Video Festival; New York Underground Film Festival; Sofia International Film Festival; Festival International Du Film De La Rochelle; Impakt, Uthreht; videopositive, Liverpool; as well as other screening programmes: "SCRAMBLE FOR THE PAST", SALT Beyoğlu, Walk-in Cinema; CINE Y CASI CINE, Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía (MNCARS), Madrid.

His solo exhibitions include: "Background Action", Würtembergischer Kunstverein Stuttgart, Sofia City Gallery; "MAKING Movies", Galleria Noua, Bucharest; “EXCUSE Me, Which City Is This?” Ica-Sofia; "REMOTE Resemblances", Goethe-Institut Sofia; “ON The Bg Track” Belgrade Cultural Centre; “EVERYTHING Seems Alright” The Kitchen, New York.

He received a special award in Mtel Awards for Contemporary Art (2011) and Ruf Award for New Bulgarian Art (2007).

Member of the Institute for Contemporary Art - Sofia (since 2006).

In 1998-2004 he has been chair (founding member) of interSpace Media Art Center. In 2005 he was co-directing (with Rene Beekman) XFILM festival for Experimental Film, Video & New Media in Sofia. He was artist-in-residence in Stuttgart, Vienna, Manchester, Eindhoven, Tornio, New York and Sofia.

Krassimir Terziev is one of the leading Bulgarian contemporary artists. He is acclaimed for his works in experimental film and video art and recognised as one of the most profound researchers in these areas in Bulgaria. His work concerns the clichés of contemporary urban cultures, the mystification of national values, memory and social amnesia.
