ARTERIM

Arterim depicts a meeting in Brussels-South Railway Station, between Vergara dressed up as Jan Hoet, and ’Eugène, director of Arterim’. Vergara performs as Jan Hoet, just arrived from Paris, a caricature on the enthusiasm that characterizes his speech. The belief in art translates itself here into the belief that art can play an innovative part in an economic context. ’Eugène, director of Arterim’ (played by Benoît Eugène), who has just arrived from London, is suggesting the foundation of an international employment office for artists. Vergara caricatures a discourse that sees opportunities for art in correlation with economy.
