EVA MEYER & ERAN SCHAERF - EUROPE FROM AFAR

BLACK BOX - SCREENING

By showing a series of conversations Europe from Afar makes a link between the representations and ideas projected onto Europe in the book ‘Vom Osten das Licht’ by Jacqueline Kahanoff and a number of other notions, projected onto Europe from within as well as without the continent.
During these conversations it becomes clear how these projections, looking for a fixed location (a home from which to observe the other), have a mobile character. At times it is a ghostly whisper at a Coptic art exhibition in Paris, at times a world exhibition marking the starting point for a future Europe between country defence and the technological disappearance of frontiers. Image and sound step out of their roles as carriers of identity and of objective recording media in order to become commercial media, merchandising their projects.
