IETS OP BACH

In ‘Iets op Bach’ (‘Something on Bach’), the performers of Les Ballets C. de la B., directed by Alain Platel, are having a party in their dance studio. Slowly it’s going out of control. The event is filmed through the windows of the dance studio, from the roof of the building on the other side of the street. The voyeurism that comes across shifts between reality and fiction, as the performers are not continuously aware of the recording camera. Every once in a while, the waiting performers are excited by short eruptions of violence, sex and dance. The music of J.S. Bach is contrasted with the relations between these people. The crude reality created by the performers is emotionalised by Bach’s divine ‘Sacred Cantatas’, and thematically linked to its lyrics of vice and sin, life and death.
