INTERN CABINE

This work is part of the installation Vertigo or the area of free catalogues, a three-dimensional mise-en-scène consisting of videos and construction materials the artist created in the autumn of 1999 at Argos.

Central in the installation there is the site of Waterloo and the monument with the lion, a symbol-laden place that refers to loss, defeat and death. But the work presents also an analysis of cinematographic techniques. In Intern cabine, which is normally projected in a wooden cabin, a fixed camera films a static image of some official in a corner of a room, as dusk falls. Who this person is, never becomes clear. He is at work in some cabin, a construction that recurs in other videos. We notice boards and hear the sound of hammers knocking, of carpenters at work, but in the back there is also the sound of a horse. The work is intended to have an alienating effect, but it is also somehow irritating, as it is never quite clear what is going on.
