PILGRIM WORLD

Jerusalem, a city fraught with symbolism and weighty associations. Ria Pacquée films the course of a river of pilgrims from above, following the steps of people from all three religions as they make their own journeys and experience their own personal transformations. Holy books, destinations, crosses carried by crowds, a man wearing a crown of thorns, the symbolic washing of feet and hands, the use of flame as purification – Ria Pacquée diminishes the metaphorical and religious distance between practitioners of the three religions in the space where the geographical distance disappears. The viewer is invited to reflect on the nature of worship, belief and pilgrimage themselves.
