AVANT-GARDE CITIZENS: MPIA’S STORY

Mpia came to the Netherlands from the Congo. Against the backdrop of the Dutch landscape, his rhythmic, musical account is performed both facing away from and turned towards the camera. Addressing the audience directly, he asks questions without answers, forming a plea to Europe and Belgium in particular. Half-sung, half-spoken, repeated phrases and motifs are woven into a web of hope and despair.
