PETER DOWNSBROUGH - POSITION
“Born in 1940, Peter Downsbrough is recognized as one of the American artists who, from the end of the 1960s, profoundly transformed the conception of the work of art. Often incorporating written language into his works, he has been associated with the so-called «conceptual» artists, whereas he in fact developed a highly personal and diversified body of work (sculptures and interventions in exhibition or public spaces, drawings, scale models, photographs, films, videos, books etc), questioning just as well the structure of language as that of the constructed space. First monograph on his entire body of work, Peter Downsbrough: Position brings together texts by French and American authors (Christian Besson, Marie-Thérèse Champesme, Russell Ferguson, Marjorie Welish) and over 300 images, in black-and-white and color.” (Source: Argos)
