AUGUSTE ORTS, WITH BENJAMIN COOK (LUX)
LECTURE
The distribution of film & video work in an audiovisual or visual arts context varies widely: from cinema to museum, from commercial gallery to festival, from TV to event, from public space to art centre, from the web to a media library. Each context is specific with regards to presentation, financing, and communication. The work of the artists involved in Auguste Orts situates itself within these various domains and is concerned with discussing the implications of all these channels of distribution as well as broadening up the idea of film/video distribution per se. Benjamin Cook (Director of LUX, London) joins the members of Auguste Orts to talk about all these issues as well as his experience with LUX, their distribution, The Artists Cinema in collaboration with Frieze Art Fair, and LUXonline.
Auguste Orts is a production and distribution platform founded by four Brussels based artists: Manon de Boer, Sven Augustijnen, Anouk De Clercq and Herman Asselberghs. Auguste Orts prefers to discuss ideas and sensitivities as opposed to genres and techniques, and executes art projects at the crossroads of cinema, video, visual arts, documentaries, experimental films etc. These projects can be presented as screenings, installations, publications or websites. Artistic creation and preference for self-organization are the driving forces behind the work of Auguste Orts.
