Robin Vanbesien is een kunstenaar, cinéaste, onderzoeker en docent, gevestigd in Brussel. Hij onderzoekt vormen van belichaamde kennis en collectieve verbeelding die aan de basis liggen van sociale en politieke zorg, solidariteit en strijd. Hij werkt hiervoor vaak samen met emancipatoire grassroots-bewegingen. 'Under These Words (Solidarity Athens 2016)' ging in première op transmediale 2019 en 'the wasp and the weather' op Cinéma du Réel 2020. Zijn eerste speelfilm ‘hold on to her’ had zijn première op Berlinale Forum Expanded 2024. In 2017 publiceerde Vanbesien het boek 'Solidarity Poiesis: I Will Come and Steal You' (b_books Berlijn). Hij was medeoprichter van The Post Film Collective (2020-2024), dat cinema onderzoekt als een ruimte voor collectieve speculatie, verbeelding en verbondenheid. Hij maakt deel uit van de transnationale werkgroep ‘Cinema as Assembly’ (Institute for Radical Imagination). Sinds 2022 co-organiseert hij de ‘Ciné Place-Making’ study circles in Brussel. Vanbesien behaalde een doctoraat in de kunsten met zijn onderzoek ‘Ciné Place-Making’ en doceert aan de masteropleiding Socio-Politieke Context in Sint Lucas School of Arts in Antwerpen. As a visual artist and filmmaker, Robin Vanbesien explores modes of embodied knowledge and collective imagination engaged in social and political struggles. Through the notion of ciné place-making, he acknowledges the capacity of cinema to preserve, reclaim, or 

redistribute invisibilized memories, histories, and lived cultures, using a cinematic language that probes beyond the prevalent scenes of representation. He collaborates with situated emancipatory grassroots movements, exploring cinema as a space for social gathering and political engagement that rehearses the capacity to hold space collectively. In 2020, Vanbesien co-founded The Post Film Collective, which explores cinema as a form of speculative rehearsal and communal assembly. 'Under These Words (Solidarity Athens 2016)' (2017) and 'the wasp and the weather' (2019) premiered at transmediale and Cinéma du Réel. His first feature ‘hold on to her’ had its world premiere at Berlinale Forum Expanded (2024).

Robin Vanbesien est artiste, cinéaste, chercheur et professeur, et vit à Bruxelles. Il étudie les formes de connaissance individuelle et d'imagination collective qui sous-tendent les pratiques sociales et politiques, la solidarité et la lutte. Pour ce faire, il collabore souvent avec des mouvements citoyens émancipateurs. 

Under These Words (Solidarity Athens 2016) a été présenté en première à transmediale 2019 et the wasp and the weather au Cinéma du Réel 2020. Son premier long métrage hold on to her a été présenté en première au Forum Expanded de la Berlinale 2024. En 2017, Vanbesien a publié le livre Solidarity Poiesis: I Will Come and Steal You (b_books Berlin). Il a été cofondateur du Post Film Collective (2020-2024), qui explore le cinéma comme espace de spéculation collective, d'imagination et de connexion. Il fait partie du groupe de travail transnational Cinema as Assembly (Institute for Radical Imagination). Depuis 2022, il coorganise les cercles d'étude Ciné Place-Making à Bruxelles. Robin Vanbesien a obtenu un doctorat en arts avec sa recherche Ciné Place-Making et enseigne dans le programme de master Contexte Socio-Politique à l'École des Arts Sint Lucas d'Anvers.
