JOACHIM OLENDER

Joachim Olender who studied law and film in Brussels is interested in "stories with holes". He moves between cinema, directing and writing, while being concerned by the manufacturing of a fictional archive. In 2006 he started a PhD in Paris on ‘the flaw in the narrative’ (EHESS) and wrote his first screenplay adapted from the novel ‘Les choses’ (The Things) of Georges Perec. In 2010, he joined the Fresnoy National Studio of Contemporary Arts (Tourcoing, France) and directed ‘Bloody eyes’, a short film that revisits the myth of the gorgon, based on a novel by Luc Dardenne. In 2012 he directed ‘Tarnac. Le chaos et la grâce, an animated docu-fiction on the Tarnac affair that turned into a video game and a video installation on the same subject. He then became associate artist working on the video opera ‘La Chute de Fukuyama’ (The Fall of Fukuyama) with Camille de Toledo and Grégoire Hetzel (Salle Pleyel, Paris, 2013). In 2014 he directed the feature documentary  ’La collection qui n’existait pas’ (The collection that did not exist) on the Belgian collector Herman Daled and on conceptual art. Early 2015 he directed a performance at the Centre Pompidou on the Utöya massacre and directed a stage adaptation of Perec’s ‘Choses’ with the actor and director Sufian El Boubsi (produced by two Belgian theaters).
