MEMORIES OF GLORY

The video essay explores the symbolic core of Brussels through an analysis of the Royal Park, embodying the city’s architecture, politics, and Belgium’s relation to the Congo. Reflecting the fragmented history and identity, the narrative is a montage of accounts given by a multiple-ego character: She, who is at the same time citizen, motherland, and time witness. The first part sheds light on the park’s history, followed by a critical engagement with Belgian colonization. The last part addresses the break from colonial rule and its lingering post-colonial impact including Rwanda’s Genocide.
