READING FROM A RIBBON
Reading from a ribbon explores desires and possibilities to create equality in social relations. The work is based on a monologue, which takes a form of a letter. The text is presented on various levels: stitched onto a 12-meter long ribbon that is slowly unfolding, written onto a costume and spoken by a performer. A tight choreography allows the text to unfold over a period of 24 minutes, in which the audience witnesses various stages of a dramatically built narrative. The piece involves four performers: a 50 year old woman, a 70 year old man, a 12 year old girl and the artist. These different roles also represent various possibilities of social relations that the text refers to such as mother or father and daughter, romantic relations or sisters. The performers all appear in isolation however meet at certain points in which a mutual dependency is displayed.
