Loredana Bianconi filmed the cockerilles d’Anderlues, the oldest of Europe, just before the plant was closed. ’La mina’ is a contrasting evocation of life in Belgium in the 1950-ties, of which a young girl called Mara gives us her vision. Tender and realistic images of family gatherings, where presents send from Italy are celebrated, alternate with images of collieries and strikes. Memories of the catastrophe of Marcinelle take turn with images of people dancing to Italian songs about the dangerous life of miners.
