On April 2013, Argos, Bozar Cinema, Le P'tit Ciné and Goethe-Institut Brüssel join forces and organize a focus on the German author, filmmaker and curator Harun Farocki.
Harun Farocki was born in Novi Jicín in 1944 in what is today the Czech Republic. He studied at the German Cinematic and Television Academy (DFFB) in Berlin, from which he was expelled in 1968 for political reasons. Since 1966, he has realized more than 100 productions for television, cinema and exhibition presentation. Among them, one can't go on without mentioning the seminal Inextinguishable Fire (1969), Jean-Marie Straub and Daniele Huillet at Work on Franz Kafka's "Amerika" (1983), the collaboration with Andrei Ujica Videograms of a Revolution (1992), the tribute to 100 years cinema anniversary Workers Leaving the Factory (1995), the trilogy Eye/Machine I-III (2001 - 2003), the 12 channel-installation presented at documenta 12 Deep Play (2007), the four–part video installation Serious Games I–IV (2009 - 2010). Between 1974 and 1984 he was author and editor of the journal Filmkritik in Munich, and he still contributes to the French cinema revue Trafic and other magazines. In addition to teaching posts in Berlin, Düsseldorf, Hamburg, Manila, Munich and Stuttgart, he has been a visiting professor at the University of California, Berkeley, from 1993 until 1999; since 2004, Farocki became a guest professor at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, and in 2006 he was appointed full professor.
In Brussels, Bozar Cinema and Le P'tit Ciné present a series of screenings, at Bozar and Cinema Nova, with a selection of films and videos produced by Farocki during his career while, at Argos, his solo show Side by Side features five two-channel video installations released between 1995 and 2012.
Harun Farocki is a program initiated by Argos, Bozar Cinema, Le P'tit Ciné and Goethe-Institut Brüssel, in collaboration with Cinema Nova.
