TENNIS

Someone is running, camera at hand, crisscross across the San Marco square in Venice; meanwhile the other hand is bouncing a tennis ball against the ground. The image, filmed in Super 8 format, juggles with the way we see things. The hand, the ball, passing pigeons, the shadows and the lines at the site, blend together in a crossfire of movements. Similarly to most of her other work Valérie Mannaerts explores the ‘dead angles’ of human dynamics from an unusual perspective.
