NOTES ON BEING ON THE WAY
The film presents notes on “being on the way” from 'Un journal d'un usager de l'espace. Het traceren van op en rond een Heerweg' ('Diary of a User of Space. Tracing on and around a Roman road'), the thesis Sanders is working on to get her PhD in the Arts. This travelogue, one of several in her PhD thesis, highlights the concept of “being on the way” within a production process, i.e. how “being on the way” is translated in a number of visual transformations, departing from observations and registrations “on and around a Roman road”. On the one hand the transformations literally turn into drawing lines, on the other they are translated into camera movements or “border compositions”. They are a reflection on drawing and the concept of “process time” and how these co-exist and entangle with each other. 'Notes on Being on the Way' presents the state of mind of an artist that seeks a place between the intuitive, constructive and reflective aspects of creating an image through hunting a phantom. The Roman road that does not exist and focusing on the process as a form of art.
