LES PETITES FILLES FRIABLES
The surrealist entourage of poets André Breton, Paul Eluard and Antonin Artaud invented the literary game of the cadavre exquis: one sentence written by many different authors, thus giving a surrealist purpose to a verse. A well-known cadavre exquis is the following sentence: “Le dortoire des petites filles friables rectifie la boîte odieuse” (The dormitory of the little fragile girls rectifies the hateful box). The film is a fragment of frivolous games between two girls in a forlorn space, dressed in romantic and chastely white dresses. The soundtrack is a song about a lover’s goodbye. In this way, Jen Debauche adds meaning to a nonsensical verse of surrealist poetry. The film encases the sentence within a nostalgic history of love and loss, as if we were watching a memory.
