SPACES THESIS PART 4 (SUMMER 2)

A cinematic account of the moments of two journeys through the United States. Between winter and summer, Chicago and Cleveland, Cleveland and New York, Cleveland and Chicago. During the run up to the war in Iraq the United States confirmed their belligerence day after day, they found exemption in the idea of the process of war as an ’ultimate’ solution.In Études Américaines, America appears as we wish to see it, but also as nation which fades out with respect to the knowledge it has gathered around itself over time. The chronological recordings are reconfigured as a group of ’space thesis’, based on what reality imposes on the image, enhanced by ‘special effects’, which penetrate into the video images on the spot during filming or during direct editing. They slide into the image, they interfere into the notion of time and space and they make appear the distance which always separates us from the image, from the subject which is filmed. This distance, too, is sometimes explicit, sometimes silent, sometimes cruel, dull and always critical.
