ANNE REIJNIERS & ROB JACOBS - ÉCHANGEUR

Since 2015 filmmaker Anne Reijniers (° 1992) and researcher Rob Jacobs (°1989) collaborate on artistic projects that aim to open up the conversation and question the Belgian colonial heritage and its official representations. In Échangeur (2016) Reijniers and Jacobs bring us into the streets of the metropolis of Kinshasa where young Congolese imagine their version of the colonial past. Around an empty pedestal that once carried a Belgian monument emerges an imaginary city where archival footage, artistic performances and present-day Kinshasa interact. Échangeur is the first outcome of an ongoing exchange between young Congolese and Belgian film makers, who try to relate to the colonial past through artistic work.
