ERIC CORIJN & STEFAN DE CORTE (COSMOPOLIS): BRUSSELS, A SMALL WORLD CITY

THURSDAY@ARGOS - LECTURE

This lecture will focus on the status of Brussels as a “Small World City” and the consequences for cultural production in this city. Starting from today’s socio-cultural condition of Brussels they will analyse the importance of free zones and new urban movements and place it in the wider context of a city-project, identity and local development. This lecture takes place within the framework of the Being, in Brussels exhibition and aims to generate, by extent, a wider discussion among the attending public on diverse artistic practices and potentialities and their possible effects on the city.

Eric Corijn is director of the interdisciplinary Urban Research Centre Cosmopolis - City, Culture and Society (www.cosmopolis. be) of the Free University of Brussels (VUB). He is a philosopher and cultural sociologist and holds the chair of Professor in Urban Geography. Stefan De Corte is research member of Cosmopolis and is interested in local development and culture. He is trained as a geographer.
